EYFS Starters 2020

A video for new starters is now available in our video resource centre - please follow the link below:

Welcome to Mendip Green

To all of our new EYFS starters,

We are so happy that you will be coming to our school later this year! All of the grown-ups are excited to meet you and tell you about all the brilliant things you will do at Mendip Green. We're going to have loads of fun, keep you safe and teach you lots and lots!

To all of our new EYFS parents and carers,

We find ourselves in the most unusual of times to be welcoming children and parents to school. Please be assured that we are already working on ways that we can welcome you and your child to school in the event of a prolonged closure.

In the coming days and weeks we will be updating this page with further information.

In the meantime:

  • follow us on social media
    • Twitter: @MendipGreenPri
    • Facebook: Mendip Green School
  • join our private Facebook forum 'Mendip Green School Forum' (there is a link from our Facebook page).  This  is a really good place to get updates, ask questions and meet new and existing parents.
  • listen to a bedtime story. During the Covid-19 outbreak, our staff have been recording stories for the children. This might be a nice way of your child becoming familiar with some of the adults they will meet in school. Follow the link below to access our bedtime stories.

With nurseries and preschools closing, we are sure that many parents will have anxieties about their child being ready to start in September.  Please do not panic. We always tailor our approach to meet the needs of our children. This year will be no different. We will get to know your child as an individual and then plan the most appropriate steps for them.

Please be assured that, as a team, we will do all that we can to ensure that your child's experience of primary school is a happy, safe and exciting one.

Welcome Packs

We hope that you have now received your welcome letter and postcard.  If your child would like to draw us picture and send it to us, it can be sent by putting a photograph on our Facebook Forum, by emailing it to us (info@mgps.n-somerset.sch.uk) or by sending it in the post. We can not wait to see what they share with us!

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch..

3rd June - A message from Susie Hodgson, EYFS Lead

I would like to welcome all of our new and existing families that are joining our EYFS (Reception) classes in the new academic year. Whilst your children aren't due to start school for a few months yet, we consider you members of our friendly school community and we are here to support your child's school journey and transition.

The team are currently putting together an information pack for you, and these will be delivered to you shortly. Each pack contains important information about starting school, details about uniform and specific information about learning in our EYFS classes.

In previous years our wonderful Parent, Teacher Association (PTA) have funded a water bottle for each child starting school. However, this year the PTA are kindly donating each child with a school BOOKBAG as an alternative. This is very exciting as a school bookbag is not only practical, but also symbolic for children throughout their school years. It provides the physical link to reading between school and home.

At Mendip Green we hold reading in extremely high regard: it provides the foundations to unlock learning. From the start of your child's time at Mendip Green, we will share books and stories with you child, engage in exciting storytelling activities, they will visit our school library and be taught skills to read. All of which we hope will develop a love of stories and reading for pleasure.

We value your partnership with learning and acknowledge the vital role that parents play in the development of reading. Our school website has some fantastic resources to support reading, as well as other aspects of learning.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns as I'm always happy to help!
