Friday 29th June

We have had a very busy past 2 years with our longstanding Headteacher retiring in 2017 and the appointment of our new Headteacher James Oakley, a re-structure of the Senior Leadership Team with a Deputy Head, Miss Victoria Walton and two assistant heads Mrs Amanda Shipton and Mrs Ashleigh Melhuish, this structure has been vital in ensuring our drive for holisitic excellence is achieved for our children and staff.

We have just completed a consultation period to convert to Academy status and join the ELAN Multi-Academy trust of which we are all very excited about and will update as we move along this journey.

Well what a year so far!

We have recruited a new headteacher - James Oakley current Dept head will be continuing to steer our ship - massive well done to him!

We prepare to see our wonderful Bruce Dale retire.

We have had our OFSTED Inspection - huge amount of work for all involved, with an excellent outcome - well done to all.

We continue our journey looking at future Multi Academy Trusts.

This week i have also been in school observing the SATs process and have been given assurance all legalities have been followed.

Looking forward to a calmer Summer term.

Well done Mendip Green Team, Children and Parent(s) Carer(s).

Tuesday 7th February

Hi all,

We have now shortlisted and invited to interview three potential new head teachers, a big thanks to the Board of Governors, staff, children and the learning exchange.

Interviews coming soon to conclude our search for the next head of Mendip green.

Tuesday 7th February

I have spent a wonderful morning in school seeing safer internet week in action.

Such an important subject in ensuring the safety of our children, their knowledge was outstanding.

Interesting to see how many children had access to potentially unsafe internet usage at home.

An excellent service by Mr Barton and the school council- well done!

Tania.

Tuesday 10th May

The Transition Committee met made up of 3 governors (Sylvia, Yvonne and Simon) alongside Mr Dale and Mr Oakley. At this meeting we look at risks of things not going well (to make sure they don't happen) and opportunities that we chase to continually improve the school. In this meeting the governors also challenge Mr Dale to make sure he and the staff are delivering against the school's transition plans in the most effective way and efficient way with the children at the forefront of all our minds always.

Tuesday 19th January

The 'Transition Committee' met this evening made up of 3 Governors (Sylvia, Yvonne and Simon) along with Mr Dale and Mrs Langley.  It's called the Transition Committee because it is responsible for the transition of the school from its current state to a full primary school. In the next school year we will have a Year 6 and an additional 90 children on site. That means we will have just over 640 children from September which will be our steady state in the coming years (but not before a peak year starting September 2017 when we will have an extra 30 children due to our large current year 4!). The main discussion at the meeting was ensuring the new build goes without a hitch, we will see builders around from February and lots of thought is going into ensuring everything is ready for when the children come back from the summer holidays.

Friday 4th December

The Behaviour, Health, Safety and Premises Committee (Paul, Sylvia, Louise, Simon and Mr Dale) met this afternoon. We covered quite a wide range of things including doubling checking that all statutory checks are being carried out and we discussed what more we can do to reduce the risk of accidents in and around school. In this committee, alongside school's Senior Leadership Team, we continuously monitor children's behaviour so that we can ensure that any emerging negative trends are nipped in the bud. The committee are particularly aware of the importance of ensuring that the school is doing everything it can to teach children how to stay safe outside of school time. We challenge Mr Dale on all such issues to make sure that our children continue to be good, safe citizens and that the school premises are as safe as we can make them.

The 'Transition Committee' met this evening made up of 3 Governors (Sylvia, Louise and Simon) along with Mr Dale and Mr Oakley. This committee has been around for a few years now. It's called the Transition Committe because it is responsible for the transition of the school from its current state to a full primary school. This is a big change and the transition committee is monitoring, plannning and steering the new things happening now that we have a year 5 and making sure the that school is ready for a year 6 from September. The big topic of discussion is the new build but we are also dealing with loads of other things that we need to get right so that we can continue to offer our children the best education and experience we can give them at Mendip Green.

Thursday 12th and Friday 13th

Thursday 12th - The Chair of Governors (Tania), Chair of the Learning, Teaching & Achievement Committee (Anna) and Chair of Behaviour, Health, Safety & Premises Committee (Simon) met with Mr Oakley for a discussions about, amongst a few things, refreshing the School Evaluation Framework to align the existing content with new OFSTED guidance. This will really help to ensure the Governing Body and school are continuously aware of our performance so that we concentrate on those things that make a real difference to the children, parents, staff and the wider community.

Friday 13th - A whole day reviewing policies for the Behaviour, Health, Safety and Premises Committee. Ensuring that the school continues to meet or exceed all legal requirements and best practice. This is really important to us because we are clear that our children's safety and welfare is never to be compromised. That means maintaining and ensuring implementation of 15 policies or plans. Thanks to the 5 Governor's involved today (Paul H, Sylvia, Jenny, Louise, Simon) for taking the day out to do this and for Mr Oakley and Mr Dale for their input. But mainly thanks to Steve the chef for the bacon sandwiches!
