Year 6 Leavers

The Graduating Class of 2021

Today we said farewell to our fantastic Year 6 children. They are a wonderful bunch and we could not be any prouder of them. We know that the future is going to be bright for all of them.

Despite the obvious disruption of the past 18 months, they have served as superb role models within our school and we are confident they will go on to be fantastic ambassadors as they move to secondary.

We were delighted to be able to provide this cohort with some of the rites and passages of being in Year 6 at Mendip Green, including our end of year show, camp, graduation and, of course, the legendary Pipe Cleaner game.

The Piper Cleaner Game

Every institution has its traditions: Oxford and Cambridge Universities have The Boat Race, Brownies have their 'promise' and Wimbledon has strawberries and cream.

At Mendip Green we have the Pipe Cleaner Game... nobody knows its origins, nobody can explain the rules and strangers find it utterly baffling BUT it is uniquely Mendip - we love it and it is here to stay!

Every year, after our end of year service, the whole school would pile out of the marquee and onto the big field for the Pipe Cleaner Game.  This happened year after year, for over 40 years until the summer of 2019 when a freak rainstorm struck and we had to abandon all hope of our end of year tradition (only the seagulls got to play the game that year).  Then, much to our dismay, the pandemic prevented the game again in the summer of 2020.

But, due to popular demand, the pipe cleaner game made a comeback this year! It was a smaller affair, with COVID measures in place - a pilot scheme, some would say - but was just as fun!  Our Year 6 were able to take part in this beloved tradition in their final year. We are so looking forward to being able to play as a whole school next year.

Year 6 Graduation - 20th July 2021

It was an absolute pleasure to watch our Year 6 children graduate this morning during 3 ceremonies - each uniquely special and capturing the characters of the children and their class.

We have taken many, many photographs of the graduation so that each child has been snapped during the special moments of the ceremony. Rather than delay sharing these with you and filtering through for the best photographs, we are sharing everything we have (nearly 600 pictures) so there will be a little repetition - maybe grab a cup of tea before starting on the slide shows!

A huge congratulations to the class of 2021 - forever Mendip Green alumni and part of the Mendip Green family.

The Year 6 Show  2021 - Pirates of the Curry Bean

We were so disappointed that we were unable to invite families to watch our Year 6 show due to the extension of COVID-19 restrictions.  However, the show must go on and the children were determined that they would still perform, even if it was without an audience.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped to ensure that the children's wish to have a Year 6 show was fulfilled: the kitchen team and lunchtime supervisors for changing the entire menu and dinner service so Year 6 could continue filming in the hall; the Year 6 Team for the time and effort taken to organise the show in such difficult circumstances; the amazing Josh from iSophia Media for the time he took to film and edit the shows for us; and, last but by no means least, our wonderful Mendip families for sourcing costumes, helping to learn lines and for your continued support, patience and understanding.

The children performed with energy and enthusiasm and we are all so excited to share these recordings with you. We hope you enjoy the show!
