Reception Admissions
All children are admitted to Mendip Green in the September of the academic year that they reach five years of age.
In the summer term, meetings are held for the parents of new Reception children. This is an opportunity for us to welcome you and your child to our school and tell you a little about us. It also gives you a chance to ask any questions, get to know the staff and tell us any special information about your child.
Every child attends part-time for an initial period, to allow the teaching staff to get to know the children well. This also enables the children to begin school in a smaller group and to become familiar with the new routines. All children should attend full time by the end of Term 1. Children feed into school from a wide range of pre-school settings. We make every effort to visit the children in their pre-schools but if this is not possible we will talk to their key workers in the summer term before they start.
If you wish to apply for a place for your child to attend Mendip Green Primary School our admissions are delegated to North Somerset School Admissions to allocate places in line with current guidelines for those children starting school in September.
Our admission numbers for Reception Intake are currently 90 pupils, three classes taking up to 30 pupils each.
Any prospective parents are welcome to visit the school to meet the Head and staff and see the school in action. Please telephone us for an appointment.
If you have added your name to the waiting list for a space at our school, please remember to contact North Somerset Admissions to add yourself to the list each term.
It is very important that applications are made on time, as late applicants have less chance of being allocated a place at their preferred school.
Children Starting School September 2026
If your child was born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022 they will be due to start Reception year in September 2026.
It’s really important to apply by the relevant closing date or you may not be considered in the first round of applications. We can’t reserve a place for those who apply late, so you’ll be less likely to get your preferred school. You can name up to three preferences and they can be schools both within and outside North Somerset.
The application window for Reception 2026 opened on Friday 12 September 2025. You can apply online or on a paper application form. All applications are processed by North Somerset Council School Admissions.
