Music
Vision
We encourage children to participate in range of musical experiences through which we aim to build up their confidence. We teach our children to listen, appraise and appreciate different forms of music, create and compose, sing and perform as well as valuing the importance of music for well-being and as a means of expression. Through this exploration, we hope to grow a love of music, in all its forms, that will last a life time.
Rationale
The choices we have made within our music curriculum will allow children to develop an appreciation for music in its many forms. They will understand the importance of music through time and around the world, exploring how it has evolved and changed as well as its significance to different cultures and social groups. Children will know music both as a discipline to be studied and as a field of knowledge that can shape their outlook now and in the future. In addition, they will understand the role of musicians, appreciating their contributions, knowing that they could, should they wish to, have a career as in this area in the future. They will recognise and appreciate how music will affect the future on a personal, national and global level.
Our Music Development Plan
Programme
We follow the National Curriculum and have chosen Charanga, a scheme that is fully aligned with the National curriculum whilst complimenting effective learning strategies through progressively sequenced teaching from EYFS to Year 6. A clear progression of skills is also used to support teaching and learning
