  • Free School Meals

    Mon 30 Mar 2020
There have been lots of people asking about collection and/or delivery of meal packs this week.
We’re anxious that we don’t encourage you to gather in groups on our playground, so...

    MG DRIVE-THROUGH:
Will be open TOMORROW (31/3) between 10am and 2pm. Drive down Nutwell Road, swoop into the the carpark (at a safe speed!), collect your bags (without leaving the comfort of your vehicle) and drive away down Greenwood Road.

    OR...

If you are self-isolating or do not have use of a vehicle tomorrow, we will deliver your pack(s) to you on Wednesday (1/4).

We have no idea how this is going to go. We’ll try it and see what happens... please bear with us...  😊🌳
  • Childcare for Crtical Workers

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement last night regarding the closure of many workplaces and the need to stay at home wherever possible, we understand that for many of our entitled parents and carers their childcare needs may have changed.

In order to maintain childcare places for the children of critical workers and protect the children and staff, we would ask that you contact us by phone and inform us if you have booked childcare sessions that you no longer require.

Phone: 01934 513791 (please leave a message on the absence line out of office hours)

    Email: info@mgps.n-somerset.sch.uk

Alternatively, if you require additional sessions please log onto ParentPay and book your sessions.

    Please can we ask that:

    • If you do not have a ParentPay account, you call to confirm your childcare needs for the week, as soon as you know them.
    • If you have a Parent Pay account, you book the sessions required, even if we have had a phone conversation with you.

This will enable us to ensure only staff that are needed are in school and that shifts and rotas are adjusted to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Please look after yourselves and stay safe.

  • SCHOOL CLOSURE - UPDATE

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

Mendip Green Primary School is now closed to all pupils for the foreseeable future.  We remain open to provide childcare from 8am until 6pm, Monday to Friday for children who are identified as vulnerable and children whose parents are critical to the Covid-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home.  All other children should have received home learning packs.  If you have not, please contact the school by telephone to discuss a suitable method for collection or delivery.

Our school is still operational behind the scenes, but as staffing numbers are significantly reduced, please be patient if you contact us for help or support. As always, we will do our best to help you as quickly as possible.

These are extraordinary times but we fully expect Mendip Green Primary School to reopen as soon as the Department for Education and Public Health England give instruction to do so. We understand the uncertainty this creates for you all but we are a strong and supportive community that will flourish and become ever stronger. We'd love for you to keep in touch. You can communicate via our Facebook Forum (@mendipgreenschoolforum) or Twitter (@mendipgreenpri) and let us know your achievements and experiences, however big or small, so we can share with the community. Keep an eye on our website for updated web links to support home learning. We are also hoping to upload video links onto our video resource library, this will include a daily story time.  This can all be found in the pupils section of our school website: https://www.mendipgreen.co.uk/

  • School Milk

    Sun 22 Mar 2020
The dairy have cancelled ALL orders for those who opt to pay for milk for their children. They are in the process of refunding any payments that have been made in advance. The company will contact all customers to confirm this shortly (you may have already received an email to confirm this).

Until further notice, the only milk that will be delivered to school will be for those children eligible for free school meals. This milk will be added to the food packs that will be available to collect every Tuesday. Please be aware that this is for children that receive Free School Meals from pupil premium, not to be confused with Universal Infant Free School Meals - which is for every child up to Year 2.

Even if you are a key worker whose child will be in school next week, your order will have been cancelled. Understandably, it would have been impossible for The Dairy to  continue to provide this service with such uncertainty about which children would be in school.
  • FREE SCHOOL MEALS

    Sat 21 Mar 2020
    Morning everybody! Happy Saturday.
We sent a letter out with children yesterday about Free School Meals. If children are isolating/distancing, we have posted the letter to you.
We are worried that we may not have up to date addresses, so please, if you think you know someone who might need this, share this info with them and tell them to get in touch.

This is for children that receive Free School Meals from pupil premium, not to be confused with Universal Infant Free School Meals - which is for every child up to Year 2.

On Tuesday, every week, packs of food will be available at school. The pack will provide a child with enough food essentials to cover breakfast and a packed lunch for 5 days. If you have 3 children, there will be 3 packs waiting for you. You can collect any time on Tuesdays between 8am and 6pm.

If you can’t collect it yourself, just call to let us know who will be picking it up for you.

Our office will be open on Monday from 8am if you have any queries.

HUGE thanks to Amanda Shipton and Sue Harris, our head chef, for getting this in place so quickly 👏👏👏
  • SCHOOL CLOSURE - Update

    Thu 19 Mar 2020
To confirm: The Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, last night closed schools to all children except the vulnerable and those of key workers “INDEFINITELY”.

Lots of rumours circulating about the length of closure and we’re receiving lots of calls to ask about this.

Any specific dates are rumours and speculation.

We have a direct line of communication from the Department of Education and will share RELIABLE information when it is announced in the coming weeks and months.

  • Work Packs

    Thu 19 Mar 2020
Packs of work have been printed for every child and have been placed in a named envelope with paper and a pencil.

They include some simple spelling/grammar/maths activities and also some projects that children may wish to complete.

Children will take these home TODAY.

For THOSE AT HOME, you can collect your child’s pack from 4pm in the foyer. People will be allowed to collect for others - you will just need to sign for the pack you’re taking so we know where they went!!

If you are taking packs on behalf of others - please make sure that they know you’re doing this(!) - we’d hate for people to make wasted journeys!!

    ABOUT THE PACKS:
    - Work is optional and is intended to help support routines.
    - we will CELEBRATE work completed on the return to school, rather than chastise those who haven’t.
    - The work packs have a limited amount of resources but the website is FULL! Most links are to online videos and games, so no printer required.
    - lots of charities and groups are opening their websites or offering Skype/video lessons etc. We will put links on this forum and on the website as and when we discover these.

  • Year 6

    Thu 19 Mar 2020
We have spoken with our Year 6 children today and wanted to update you on what has been said:

We are going to treat the next two days as ‘normal’ school days. We will not be taking part in shirt or hoodie signing at this stage. The children do not need the additional emotional strain of considering these as their last days in primary school, especially as this may not be the case.

We have agreed that we are a team. Most of us started this journey 7 years ago in EYFS and we intend to finish it TOGETHER. We are not going to say goodbye with teammates missing.

We will not end Mendip Green with a whimper.

We have not yet spoken to local secondaries but we are confident that if school closure takes us beyond the end of the school year, they will support us in allowing the children some time to come together for graduation etc.

Please be assured, as we posted yesterday, that during these extraordinary times, extraordinary efforts will be made to support our Y6 children.

  • KEY WORKERS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN

    Thu 19 Mar 2020
We are awaiting further guidance on definitions of key workers and vulnerable children and will share information with you once we have it.

A number of parents/carers have left voicemail messages regarding this today and have requested a call back. We are sorry but we do not have the capacity at this stage to make individual phone calls about this matter. We do understand that people are searching for answers and we will use all available channels to get information to you as soon as we have it.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
  • SCHOOL CLOSURE - Additional Information

    Wed 18 Mar 2020
We can’t thank you all enough for your understanding regarding school closure. We hope you know by now where our hearts normally lie with regards to closing the school but we obviously accept that these are extraordinary times and necessary steps that are being taken.

We know you’ve got loads of questions at the moment and many of you are relying on answers to make plans for next week and beyond. We promise that the moment we can provide clarity, we will.

To confirm a few details and answer a few questions:
    - We have not been given complete clarity or instruction yet regarding key workers or vulnerable groups in terms of how they will be identified and how schools will manage this. We will share this detail when We get it.
    - We will send all children home with a pack of work on Friday. For those not in school, we will set up opportunities for collection. More details to follow.
    - We are aware that there are lots of trips and camps that have been booked for later in the year. Whilst we will do EVERYTHING we can, we obviously recognise that these events may be postponed or even cancelled. For the moment, please pause on any payments until we can provide you with some further information.
    - We know that there are some anxious year 6 parents discussing the plans for the next two days and what might happen in the event of a prolonged closure. We have no idea on the length of closure at this stage so it is hard to make firm plans for the end of the year. We are worried about child wellbeing if we treat Thursday or Friday as last days of school. As we mentioned earlier, these are extraordinary times and we will take EXTRAORDINARY decisions in the event that the school stays closed for a prolonged period of time. It’s too early to talk through detail but if we needed to liaise with secondary schools about holding a leavers service etc in the autumn term then we are sure we will be supported. These are unprecedented times but we know the school community as a whole are keen to keep the experience of our young people as normal as possible.
    - The children are likely to be away from friends for a while so we will plan lots of free time and fun over the next few days - don’t worry!
